Lorus Sport Sea RH947RX9 the diver look, not quite a dive watch
The Lorus Sport Sea RH947RX9 is a 41 mm quartz watch with a two-way rotating bezel, a blue gradient dial, a steel bracelet and 100 m water resistance. It suits anyone who wants the diver look for swimming, holidays and daily wear without spending much. The catch: the bi-directional bezel and mineral crystal make it a dive-style watch rather than a proper diver.

The short version
Seiko's budget brand has put a blue sunray dial and a coloured bezel on a slim 41 mm steel case. It borrows the look of watches that cost several times as much, but stops short of the specification that real diving needs.
What is new about the Lorus Sport Sea RH947RX9?
The RH947RX9 is part of the Lorus Sport range and arrived with the 2025 Spring/Summer collection, according to official Lorus dealer Watch.co.uk. Ocarat files it under the Sport Sea family. It is a three-hand quartz watch with a date window, a two-way rotating bezel and a steel bracelet. This reference has a dark blue gradation sunray dial with a matching blue bezel. Lorus also makes the same 41 mm case with a black dial (RH945RX9) and a dark green dial (RH949RX9).
The appeal is obvious. A sunray dial that fades from light to dark, a coloured bezel and a polished case are the ingredients of far more expensive divers. Lorus has put them together at a price that sits under £100, with the Seiko group's quartz know-how inside.
How big is it, and how will it wear?
Lorus quotes a 41 mm case and a thickness of 11.8 mm, with a 20 mm bracelet. Ocarat lists the total weight as 125 g. Those are sensible numbers. A 41 mm case suits most wrists, and 11.8 mm is slim enough to slide under a shirt cuff, which many budget divers are not.
Lorus does not publish a lug to lug figure, so it is worth checking the case shape in photos if your wrist is small. For comparison, the Sekonda Dive 1512 measures 44 mm across, so the Lorus will feel the more compact of the two. The bracelet closes with a push button deployment clasp, according to Watch.co.uk, and uses push pins, so swapping to a rubber or fabric strap is simple.
What movement does it use, and how accurate is it?
Inside is the Lorus calibre PC32, a quartz movement from Seiko Instruments. Watch.co.uk lists an SR626SW (377) battery with a quoted life of around 36 months, and says the seconds hand stops when the crown is pulled out, which makes setting the time to the second easy.
Lorus does not quote an accuracy figure for the PC32 on its product page. Any modern quartz movement of this type will keep far better time than a mechanical watch, and the main ownership cost is a battery change every few years. There is no solar charging here: if that matters, Lorus sells solar models on its AS32 calibre for similar money.
How well is it built?
The case and screw-down caseback are stainless steel, and Lorus rates the watch to 10 bar, or 100 m. That is plenty for swimming, snorkelling and holidays. The crystal is flat mineral glass, which Watch.co.uk calls Hardlex, Seiko's own hardened mineral. It resists everyday knocks but will scratch more easily than sapphire.
The bezel is the detail to understand. Lorus lists it as a two-way rotating bezel, and one owner on Watch.co.uk describes it as a smooth friction bezel. A true dive bezel only turns anticlockwise and clicks into place, so a knock can only ever shorten your remaining dive time. A bi-directional friction bezel is fine for timing a parking ticket or a pasta pot, but it is not a safety device. Lorus also does not list a screw-down crown for this reference, and Watch.co.uk describes it as a pull crown.
Is it good value against its rivals?
At £89, the price official Lorus dealer Watch.co.uk lists, the RH947RX9 sits in a busy part of the market. Two British-designed rivals frame it well.
- Accurist Dive 72001X (RRP £99): a 42 mm quartz diver with sapphire crystal, a uni-directional bezel, a screw-down crown and caseback, and 200 m water resistance, on a rubber strap. On paper it is the more serious diving tool for £10 more, though Accurist's site showed it out of stock at the time of writing.
- Sekonda Dive 1512 (RRP £59.99): a 44 mm watch on a steel bracelet with a fixed bezel and 50 m water resistance. It is cheaper, but larger and less capable in water.
The Lorus lands between them. It is better specified for water than the Sekonda and slimmer than both, but the Accurist offers more genuine dive features if you can find one.
What is the catch?
This is a watch that looks like a diver rather than one built for diving. The bi-directional bezel, the pull crown and the mineral crystal are all compromises that keep the price down. None of them matter for swimming or daily wear, but anyone planning to dive with it should look elsewhere. Lorus also publishes no lume details or accuracy figure on its product page, so buyers who care about night-time legibility should check owner photos first.
If you want an attractive, slim, Seiko-made quartz watch with a blue dial and a splash of diver style, the RH947RX9 is easy to like.
“It borrows the look of a serious diver and keeps the price, and the specification, firmly on dry land.”
