T-Rex 3 Pro 48mm Amazfit's tough watch gains sapphire and a torch

The T-Rex 3 Pro 48mm is Amazfit's rugged outdoor smartwatch, upgraded with a sapphire screen, a titanium bezel, a built-in torch and a speaker for calls. It suits hikers and trail runners who want offline maps and weeks of battery without Garmin prices. The catch: the plain T-Rex 3 costs £120 less and shares much of the software.

The short version

Amazfit has taken its big, cheap adventure watch and given it the hardware of something far dearer. Whether that is worth £399.90 depends on how much you value glass you will not scratch and a light on your wrist.

What is new about the T-Rex 3 Pro 48mm?

The T-Rex 3 Pro arrived in the UK in September 2025, with Notebookcheck reporting the 48 mm Tactical Black version as the first one on sale through Amazfit's UK store. It is a step up from the standard T-Rex 3 rather than a replacement, and Amazfit sells both side by side.

The changes are mostly physical. The screen is now covered in sapphire rather than Corning Gorilla Glass, the bezel and four buttons are grade 5 titanium instead of stainless steel, and peak brightness rises from 2,000 to 3,000 nits. Amazfit has added a two-colour LED torch at the top of the case, plus a speaker alongside the microphone, so the watch can take Bluetooth calls from a paired phone. It runs Zepp OS 5, one version on from the T-Rex 3, and the strap now uses 22 mm quick-release pins rather than a special tool.

Maps get more attention too. Amazfit lists base maps, contour lines and ski resort maps, turn-by-turn directions, point of interest search, route planning, round-trip routes and automatic rerouting, where the T-Rex 3 stops at turn-by-turn.

How big is it, and how will it wear?

This is a large watch. Amazfit quotes 48 x 48 x 14 mm for the case without the heart rate sensor bump, and 52 g without the strap. The screen is a 1.5 inch AMOLED panel at 480 x 480 pixels. The case itself is fibre-reinforced polymer, which keeps the weight down for its size, with the titanium limited to the bezel and buttons.

Amazfit says the supplied silicone strap fits wrists from 145 to 210 mm. If 48 mm sounds like too much, there is a 44 mm version at the same RRP, measuring 44.8 x 44.8 x 13.2 mm with a smaller 1.32 inch screen, a 20 mm strap and shorter battery life. The Tactical Black finish shown here is all black, without the gold accents of the Black Gold version.

What does it run on, and how long does the battery last?

The watch runs Amazfit's own Zepp OS 5 and pairs with the Zepp app on Android 7.0 or iOS 15.0 and later. It is not a Wear OS watch, so there is no Google Play store, but data syncs to Strava, Komoot, TrainingPeaks, intervals.icu, Apple Health and others.

Battery life is the headline. Amazfit quotes up to 25 days of typical use for the 48 mm model, up to 10 days of heavy use, and up to 38 hours in its most accurate GPS mode. Power-saving GPS modes stretch that to 74, 85 or 116 hours. The battery is rated at 700 mAh. Positioning uses six satellite systems, dual-band support and a circularly polarised antenna.

The sensor set is broad for the price: Amazfit's BioTracker 6.0 optical heart rate sensor, a barometric altimeter, compass, gyroscope and skin temperature sensor. Sport tracking covers 187 modes, including strength movement recognition and a Hyrox race mode.

How well is it built?

Amazfit rates the T-Rex 3 Pro to 10 ATM and says it is certified for freediving and scuba to 45 m. The sapphire screen is the most useful upgrade for an outdoor watch, since a scratched display is the usual way rugged smartwatches start to look tired. The titanium bezel adds to that, though the main case is still polymer.

Charging is by a magnetic puck. Note that Amazfit's UK listing says a USB-C cable is not included in the box.

Is it good value against its rivals?

The RRP is £399.90 on Amazfit's UK store, for either size. That puts it level with the Polar Grit X2 at £399 and below the Coros Apex 4 at £429, both of which also offer maps. The Garmin Instinct 3 AMOLED 45 mm now has an RRP of £299, though it has no touchscreen and no proper maps.

The closest rival is Amazfit's own T-Rex 3 at £279. It has a slightly bigger battery figure (up to 27 days), the same 10 ATM rating and much of the same software. What the extra £120.90 buys is sapphire, titanium, the torch, the speaker, the brighter screen and the fuller mapping. For anyone who will use the torch on a dark campsite or a winter run, that is a fair trade.

What is the catch?

The software is the weak spot. RunSpirited, in an otherwise positive review, found the maps confusing at times and noted that routes are best built in Komoot or Strava first. It also flagged that heart rate can wander on rough cycling descents, and the watch cannot store music.

Size is the other issue. At 48 mm across and 14 mm thick, it will dominate a small wrist, so the 44 mm model is worth a look. And with the T-Rex 3 still on sale, buyers who mainly want the battery life can save money by skipping the Pro.

“The Pro badge buys hardware, not new tricks: sapphire, titanium, a torch and a speaker.”
