Lorus RH995RX9 a green sunray dress watch rated to 100 m

Yes, if you want an affordable green-dial dress watch with real water resistance. The RH995RX9 is a 41 mm Lorus quartz with a sunray green dial, gold-tone hands and a brown leather strap, rated to 100 m, at a £69.99 RRP. The catch is the size: 41 mm is large for a dress watch, so smaller wrists may prefer a 37 mm alternative.

The short version

Lorus has put a green sunray dial and gold-tone hands, a combination usually found on far pricier watches, into a steel quartz dress watch that costs less than £70.

What is new about the Lorus Clear-cut Classic RH995RX9?

The RH995RX9 is part of Lorus's Clear-cut Classic range, which Lorus UK added to its site in September 2025 alongside dark blue (RH989RX9), light blue (RH991RX9) and two-tone (RH992RX9) versions. This is the green one: a dark green sunray dial with a pressed pattern finish, slim gold-tone baton hands and indices, a single Arabic 12, a date window at three o'clock and a dark brown leather strap.

Lorus, which is part of Seiko Watch Corporation, pitches it as a watch for "clear-cut timeless elegance", and the layout is about as traditional as a quartz dress watch gets. What makes it slightly unusual at this price is the green sunray dial with gold accents, a combination that is more often seen on watches costing two or three times as much.

How big is it, and how will it wear?

Lorus lists the case at 41 mm across, with a 20 mm strap. Its global spec page gives the thickness as 10.40 mm, while Lorus UK rounds it to 10.5 mm. Lorus UK quotes the weight as 54 g.

That makes it a modern-sized dress watch rather than a vintage-sized one. At 41 mm it will look substantial on a slim wrist, and anyone who wants a dress watch to sit discreetly under a shirt cuff may find it a little large. On the other hand, at around 10 mm thick and 54 g, it should slip under most cuffs and is light enough to forget about. Lorus does not publish a lug-to-lug figure, so check the overall length in a shop if your wrist is small.

What movement does it use, and how accurate is it?

Inside is the Lorus PC32 quartz calibre, with hours, minutes, seconds and date. Lorus UK quotes accuracy of plus or minus 30 seconds a month. That is a typical figure for an inexpensive quartz watch: in practice you might adjust it a few times a year, and it will still be far more accurate than any mechanical watch at any price. The hands are semi-luminous, which Lorus says helps readability in different lighting, but this is not a watch to read in the dark.

How well is it built?

The case is stainless steel with a screw-in caseback, and Lorus rates it to 10 bar, which is 100 m. That is unusually generous for a dress watch: most rivals in this price range offer 30 m or 50 m, so this one should cope with hand washing, rain and the odd swim without a second thought.

The trade-off is the crystal. Lorus uses a flat mineral crystal, which is tougher than acrylic but scratches more easily than sapphire. At this price that is normal, but the steel case and mineral glass will show wear over time. The strap is dark brown leather with a pin buckle; at 20 mm, replacements are easy to find.

Is it good value against its rivals?

The RRP on Lorus's UK site is £69.99. The obvious rival is the Accurist Classic 73007X, which also has a green dial and brown leather strap, at £89 on Accurist's site. The Accurist is the more compact choice at 37 mm and 9 mm thick, which suits smaller wrists and a more vintage look, but it is rated to 50 m against the Lorus's 100 m.

Lorus's own Colour Fade models, such as the deep green RS997DX9 at £79.99, are the other option if you want a more striking gradient dial. Against both, the RH995RX9 is one of the cheapest ways into a green-dial dress watch from a mainstream brand, and the 100 m rating is a genuine point in its favour.

What is the catch?

There are two. The first is size: 41 mm is on the large side for a dress watch, and buyers who want something more classic and discreet may prefer a 37 mm to 39 mm case. The second is that it is new, so there is no owner feedback yet on how the strap and dial finish hold up. Lorus has a long record of making dependable, inexpensive quartz watches, but the strap that comes with a sub-£70 watch is often the first thing owners replace.

If neither bothers you, this is a lot of watch for £69.99: a sunray green dial, a steel case with 100 m water resistance and a quartz movement backed by Seiko.

“A green sunray dial and 100 m of water resistance for less than the price of a good leather strap.”
