Watch GT 7 ski maps and a new strap for Huawei's 21-day watch
The Huawei Watch GT 7 46 mm is a stainless steel smartwatch with a 1.47-inch AMOLED screen, dual-band GPS and battery life Huawei quotes at up to 21 days. It suits Android owners who want something that looks like a proper watch and rarely visits the charger. The catch: it changes little from the GT 6, and iPhone owners lose some features.

The short version
Huawei has kept the GT 6's case, screen and battery and put its effort into software: skiing, a morning readiness score and a strap that tucks out of the way. That makes the GT 7 a refinement rather than a new watch.
What is new about the Watch GT 7?
Less than the new number suggests. Huawei launched the GT 7 in Europe in early September 2026, and its own specification sheet gives the 46 mm model exactly the same case size, thickness, weight and screen as the GT 6 it replaces. The changes are mostly in software and accessories.
The headline additions are an all-new skiing and snowboarding mode with maps for more than 3,000 ski resorts, a Physical Readiness Score that rolls sleep, heart rate, HRV, stress and recent activity into one morning number, and a short daily Mini-workout feature. Cyclists get climb planning, sharp turn alerts and FTP estimates based on virtual power, though Huawei notes that some of these arrive by software update. The watch runs HarmonyOS 6.1, and the sports strap is a new EasyCross design that buckles and then tucks under itself so the loose end cannot snag.
Notebookcheck put it plainly in its review summary: the improvements over the GT 6 are modest, and GT 6 owners have few compelling reasons to upgrade.
How big is it, and how will it wear?
The 46 mm version measures 46 mm across and 10.95 mm thick, and Huawei quotes about 51.3 g without the strap. It takes a 22 mm strap and Huawei says it suits wrists from 140 mm to 210 mm. That is a substantial, sporty size, closer to a dive watch than a dress watch.
If that sounds large, there is a 41 mm model at 9.99 mm thick and about 37.5 g. Basic Tutorials, which reviewed the smaller version, found it wore bigger than its numbers because of the long, flared lugs, so the 46 mm will have real wrist presence. The black version covered here pairs the steel case with a black fluoroelastomer EasyCross strap, the most practical choice for sweat and swimming.
What powers it, and how long does the battery last?
This is a smartwatch, so there is no movement in the traditional sense. It runs Huawei's HarmonyOS and pairs with phones on Android 9 or later and iOS 13 or later through the Huawei Health app.
Battery life is the reason to buy it. Huawei quotes up to 21 days in light use, up to 12 days in typical use, up to 7 days with the always-on display, and up to 51 hours in trail running mode with GPS. Huawei credits a high-silicon stacked battery. Notebookcheck reports the larger model lasted about two weeks with health features switched on, which sits comfortably inside the claim. Charging is wireless via a cradle.
Positioning uses dual-band GPS plus GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS and NavIC, and Notebookcheck found tracking and heart rate readings largely matched its reference devices.
How well is it built?
The case is stainless steel. Water resistance is 5 ATM, which Huawei rates for pool and coastal swimming but not diving, and the watch also carries an IP69 rating against high-pressure, high-temperature spray. There is a rotating crown and a second button, a speaker and microphone for calls, NFC, and a 1.47-inch AMOLED screen with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits.
Notebookcheck describes the build quality as excellent and says the screen is covered by sapphire, although Huawei's own comparison table only lists sapphire for the more expensive GT 7 Pro, so treat that detail with care until Huawei confirms it.
Is it good value against its rivals?
The RRP is £279.99 on Huawei's UK store. That sits right against the Amazfit Balance 2, which Amazfit UK lists at £299.90 and which also leans on long battery life and its own app. At the other end, Xiaomi UK lists the Xiaomi Watch S4 from £129.99, a round steel-look smartwatch with NFC that costs less than half as much if you can live with a shorter feature list.
Inside Huawei's own range, the question is the GT 6. It has the same case, screen and battery, and Notebookcheck notes the GT 7 costs around 50 euros more in Europe. If the GT 6 is still on sale for less, it is the obvious alternative. If you want ECG, golf maps and a diving mode, the GT 7 Pro adds those, at an RRP of £379.99.
What is the catch?
Two things. First, the platform. Like the GT 6, the GT 7 relies on Huawei's own app store, so popular third-party apps are thin on the ground. Notebookcheck also reports that iPhone owners cannot reply to messages or use Petal Maps navigation, so the full experience is reserved for Android.
Second, the gap between this and its predecessor is small. For anyone buying a first Huawei watch, that hardly matters: the case, screen and battery were already strong. For anyone upgrading from a GT 6, it is hard to justify.
“A refinement, not a new watch: the GT 7's best features were already in the GT 6.”
