Swatch 2012 fall collection

As the clocks go back and we head towards the Winter months with be-gloved hands and woolly hats on chilly heads, Swatch launches their new collection of watches to warm the cockles of your hearts withsome stunningly designed watches. From the chic Deep Shine Collection (pictured) a stunning new collaboration in the Swatch & Art Collection. The fall of 2012sees another unique collaboration with the Paris-born tatooartist, Tin-Tin (not to be mistaken with the young Belgium detective!)

'Fired Snake' and 'Waved Koi' is a fine example of Tin-Tin's original tatoo artistry which draws inspiration from illustrations and art books, rather than being the cliched tatoo imagery of the 80s era in which Tin-Tin learnt his trade. Tin-Tin explained his design inspirations to Swatch:

"I was very proud that Swatch proposed this collaboration because, to me, it represents a very stylish brand which is constantly developing and always outstanding with its innovations. For me, Swatch upholds the reputation and reliability of Swiss watches, but does so in an affordable way, without being uptight or elitist. My inspirations were, naturally, my style of tattoos that I have realized quite often and quite well symbolize myself in their graphics. These are, of course, timeless, quickly identifiable and immutable drawings: examples of tattoo art in the collective unconscious."

Also in the Swatch & Art Collection, the beautiful and charmingly designed 'charmingly beautiful' is from Delhi based Indian fashion designer Manish Arora. After attending the National Institute of Fashion Technology in New Delhi, Manish founded his eponymous label in 1997. Known for his humorous, poppy use of psychedelic colours and kitschy, Bollywood-esque motifs, he combines Western fashion traditions with Indian beading, embroidery, materials, and applique. Flagship stores and participation in the high-visibility Hong Kong, London and Paris Fashion Weeks have secured him a place at centre stage in the world’s most vibrant fashion markets.

Manish's pulpy, comic book images in 'charmingly beautiful' deploys his and Swatch's love for vibrance and colour as well as expressing a playfulness and humour which has become so synonymous with the artist. Coming in a limited edition display case, this is a wonderful edition to any Swatch collectors collection or just a great watch to wear for special occasions if you have no interest in collection Swatch.

LITTLE IDIOT

Swatch has teamed up with world renowned musician Moby to create a special one-off watch - the 'little idiot', part of their Swatch and Art Collection. These drawings of the 'little idiot' are similar to early Matt Groening and maybe a less dark Don Hertzfeldt. Moby explained his design inspirations to Swatch: "I started drawing cartoon characters in the mid 80's when I worked in an underground record store. Every bag that left the store had a drawing on it, and one of my jobs was to draw the cartoons on the bags. And since then the little cartoon characters have just taken on lives of their own. I have been familiar with Swatch watches for many years and have admired the sense of creativity that they convey and promote. Working with Swatch on this project provided an interesting opportunity to give new context to the 'Little Idiot' drawings and I really love the finished results." And we love it! These fun and beautifully drawn cartons are the perfect partner to Swatch's chic and stylish collection of watches.
